There have been incredible rises to fame attributed to YouTube over the last few years, but Greyson Chance has now blown them all away in terms of going from a zero to a hero in the shortest time.
YouTube Fame
has made plenty of people famous in the five years since the site was launched.
There are the ordinary people lifted to extraordinary heights after appearing in viral videos. Notables include David after Dentist, JK Wedding Dance, and Judson Laipply with his Evolution Of Dance.
Then there is Susan Boyle, whose appearance on Britain’s Got Talent got uploaded to YouTube, where it spread like wildfire, making her a hit on both sides of the Atlantic and all over the world.
Then there are the two filmmakers whose careers were given a huge lift after short films they’d made appeared on the site, where they were spotted by Hollywood bigwigs.
Greyson Chance
Greyson Chance is a 12-year-old boy who has his own YouTube channel. After posting a couple of videos of him performing his own compositions, he uploaded one of him performing a cover of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi at his school.
After being mostly ignored for a few weeks, it suddenly went viral at the beginning of May. We posted about it on WebTVHub on May 14, the day after he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
From Ellen To Interscope
And that’s where the story goes mad. After appearing on Ellen, Chance was approached by Interscope Records and signed on the spot, with the label’s chairman seeking to shut out any other labels altogether.
This mimics how Justin Bieber, now 16 and hugely successful, was discovered. However, while he was spotted on YouTube, his videos never went viral in the same way Chance’s have. Greyson’s rise to fame has truly been one conducted in public.
Conclusions
All of these examples, but especially Greyson Chance, show just what an effect YouTube can have on someone’s life. People who may never have otherwise been given a chance to shine are now plucked from obscurity on a regular basis purely because of online video.
