Kaltura is going places. It just raised a second round of funding, and recently announced a joint collaboration with Wikipedia to put video on the site by the end of 2008.
This is in addition to recently announcing the release of a new and improved open-source video extension for websites using the MediaWiki software, the first open-source video software available.
Video On Wikipedia Articles
The improvements mean that users will be able to use the platform extension to upload and remix videos, images, slide shows, audio tracks and animation and to add interactive videos to any of the millions of Wikipedia articles.
The extension is available free here, and includes a new user friendly look, a simplified interface and improvements based on user feedback from existing users.
Competition For Brightcove Etc.
The second-round funding is of an unknown amount but Kaltura has said it is larger than the $2.1 million the company received as a start-up fund from Avalon Ventures and angel investors.
Kaltura is rapidly becoming a media darling and making deals with sites such as Wikipedia which will ensure it is a high profile piece of video software. However, the company does have competition from companies offering similar services such as Brightcove and ThePlatform.
