Meerkat Manor
is an animal documentary series that aired originally in the UK but has become wildly popular in other countries, including the US. It follows a family of wild meerkats living in the Kalahari Desert.
The UK version is narrated by Bill Nighy, while Sean Astin and Stockard Channing have narrated the US version. The dramatic, emotional narration has been praised for breaking the wall between subject and viewer found in most documentaries.
Meerkat Manor has aired four seasons in the UK and US, where it is Animal Planet’s highest-rated series. It has also led to a feature film, books and a videogame.
