As The World Turns
is an Emmy-winning American daytime soap opera that began airing in 1956. Set in the fictional town of Oakdale, Illinois, the serial followed the lives of several families, including the family of medical professionals the Hugheses, the wealthy Walshes, and the blue collar Snyders.
As The World Turns, which airs on CBS, was originally performed live and switched to tape in 1967. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006. It has aired over 13,000 episodes. After Guiding Light airs its final episode in September, it will be the longest-running soap on American television.
