TV Land offers a large number of free full episodes of classic television programs that can be viewed online.
TV Land: Classic and Prime Time Television
For the longest time, my perspective of TV Land has been skewed by the impression that this was just a cable channel that played programs like “Gunsmoke” and “Brady Bunch”, but after checking out the television listing on the TV Land site, I’m seeing that, in addition to classic television programming TV Land’s website also streams a number of prime time programs from the 80’s and 90’s as well, such as “Roseanne” and “The Cosby Show”, in addition to their own original programs.
The TV Land selection of programs is impressive, and in addition to the television shows, their site includes various features such as image galleries, streaming music and games.
Episode Selection and Options
TV Land offers a decent selection of shows to check out, and while you can’t view the entirety of individual seasons, there’s enough of each of these programs to keep you satisfied. My experience watching some of these was that the quality and audio was fine, with only a brief commercial to begin each segment.
Music from TV Land
Also available through the TV Land site are a number of free streaming internet stations that feature television theme songs, 80’s classics, and even a station of 8-track gems. The stations are offered through a popup Rhapsondy player which opened quickly and sounded fantastic, with only a slightly distracting advertisement in the bottom of the popup.
TV Land Image Galleries
TV Land also offers an impressive and extensive gallery of images from some of the programs that they run, including, oddly, a gallery of Bill Cosby’s sweaters from the Cosby Show. I honestly never game much thought to Cosby’s sweater collection, but apparently it was a comprehensive variety he wore.
Games on TV Land
TV Land also offers a game page with a great collection of trivia games for programs such as Star Trek and M*A*S*H. The trivia includes a fascinating variety of obscure television data, many questions of which I had no idea how to answer (not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, actually. Maybe it was a good thing when Mom told me to turn of the TV and play outside for awhile…)
Also tagged into the site is a TV Land Prime Blog that offers some interesting (albeit general) posts about things such as Hollywood headlines and news about collectables.
Classic TV in an Online Format
TV Land is an ideal site for those looking for a variety of classic television programming, and includes enough extras to be worth checking out. The site is an excellent compliment to the TV Land cable channel.
