Everyone loves a good video meme, don’t they? Those Web trends that seem to take a hold quickly and build momentum. The latest has been sparked by the trailer for the Facebook movie, The Social Network, with spoof trailers for other Web companies flourishing.
Online Video Memes
Online video memes have been around for as long as online video has. Who could forget Star Wars Kid, who had his original video remixed dozens of times. Or Rickrolling, which saw everyone on the Web directed to the YouTube video of Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
More recent ones include the Hitler Downfall meme, with the Nazi leader’s bunker speech subtitled on numerous occasions. And the Tiger Woods Nike commercial which saw the golf champion and serial adulterer mocked mercilessly.
Now there’s a new kid on the block, with the trailer for The Social Network spoofed a number of times.
The Social Network Movie Trailer Spoofs
The Social Network
is the new movie which tells the story of how Facebook came to be founded. It was directed by David Fincher from the book The Accidental Billionaires, and stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg and Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker.
The original trailer is as follows:-
Facebook Movie Trailer
This has led to a number of spoof videos, all of which follow the same format but which tell the story of how other big Web companies were founded.

eBay Movie Trailer

The chances are this isn’t the end of this meme either, with other companies surely ripe for the spoofing. I’m thinking Google, Wikipedia, and Amazon for starters. And so long as they follow the same format, are humorous, and look professional, they should work.
Conclusions
The serious side of all this is, of course, that these spoof movie trailers are good for the original source. More people will now know of The Social Network after seeing some of these videos. Which once again proves the power of online video.
