Obama, McCain, Palin and Biden | Who’s Being Watched Online?

Everyone who is eligible to vote in the upcoming U.S. Election has probably already made their minds up. But if not, could Web video prove decisive in persuading people to vote one way or the other?

The 2008 U.S. Presidential Election has been an absolute revelation, with everyone, regardless of race, religion, and sex interested in the candidates, what they stand for, and who will prove victorious on November 4th.

For me, as a Brit living in the UK, I’ve also been amazed by the coverage of the race for the White House on this side of the Atlantic, which shows this is history in the making for more than just America.

The Internet Appeal

The Internet has been an absolute boon for this election, with news posts, blogs, and videos being used as powerful weapons in the battle between Barack Obama and John McCain.

Over on WebTVHub, our sister site, there have been numerous videos posted related to the election, with some supporting Obama, some supporting McCain, and others just being funny takes on the whole thing.

Web Video Coverage

But which candidate has been most in demand online? Which of the four people involved, Barack Obama, John McCain, Sarah Palin, and Joe Biden have garnered the most video attention?

Obama Wins

The Google Insights results (above) for each candidate show that overall, Barack Obama is the most in demand, with more people wanting to watch footage of him talking and detailing his campaign than anyone else.

Sarah Palin – Web Phenomenon

Interestingly, McCain doesn’t even manage second place, with his Vice Presidential running mate Sarah Palin beating him by quite a margin.

This is because Palin has no doubt been the wild card of this election, with story after story emerging about the Governor Of Alaska since she was chosen as McCain’s number two at the end of August.

Palin’s biggest peak came on September 28th when Tina Fey impersonated and mocked her on Saturday Night Live for the second time. The video of the skit (as well as the previous one) became a huge viral hit all over the Web.

The State Of The Nation

McCain is really not in demand with online surfers, possibly due to the demographic of his supporters not using the internet, or simply because people are more interested in what Obama has to day.

If these video-on-demand results mean anything then Obama is set to win the race for the Presidency.
