Flixwagon Offers Live iPhone Video Broadcasting Tool | Video Recordings To Web

Flixwagon LogoIt seems that after Steve Jobs keynote at the WWDC earlier this week, where he unveiled the new 3G iPhone, everyone is trying to get a piece of the Apple action.

We heard a couple of days ago about Sling Media demonstrating the new SlingPlayer Mobile, and now we have Flixwagon doing the same with a live video broadcasting tool.

From Phone To Web

The Israel based Flixwagon specialises in software allowing mobile phone users to broadcast video live in near to real time over the Web. It has already provided the software for the Symbian mobile operating system and is now expanding.

The company is working on versions of the software for the iPhone, Java, and Windows Mobile. This will mean millions of mobile phone owners will soon have access to the software.

Empowering Citizen Journalists

Flixwagon allows users to record a video with the touch of a button, and then broadcast it to the Web almost instantly. MTV has already used the software to empower street reporters on Super Tuesday.

As we discussed the other day, citizen journalism is a growing trend which is gaining mainstream popularity and support, especially with YouTube now coming on side.

This will only help that trend grow even quicker, with owners of all types of mobiles suddenly finding the power to record and broadcast video to the Internet at their fingertips.

Multiple Options

People using the software in this way can choose to send the video to a page on Flixwagon, post the clips to YouTube, or even send an announcement to their Twitter page.

The speed of your Web connection can radically alter the power of this tool, but assuming that isn’t a problem, the service enables 320×240 video at up to 15 frames per second using Flash.

A newly bought, straight out of the box iPhone won’t work with the software, and instead you’ll need a jailbroken device. However, with Steve Jobs supposedly feeling generous, that could change in the future.
