Cellware is a new start-up, which offers users the chance to participate in a social network, and gives mobile users the opportunity to download videos, ringtones, wallpapers and more.
The site, which went live in early December, is not only 100% free to use, but also offers content creators the chance to earn money just for taking part.
Here on WebTVWire, we are obviously most interested in the video side of what is available, but the Ringtones, wallpapers, games and applications also on offer are definitely a nice bonus on top of them.
First Free Mobile Social Network
Cellware claims itself to be the first mobile social networking site which offers everything for free, citing competitors who only offer some of their content for download, before asking for a set fee for the privilege.
On first visit to the site, you need to sign up as a user, which couldn’t be simpler, with just three fields to fill in. You then have instant access to all the Mobile Content available through the site.
The revenue sharing system works simply by offering those users who produce content the chance to earn a percentage each time someone downloads that content.
Videos Most In Abundance
At the moment, there isn’t a great deal of content available to be downloaded, although videos seem to be the most in abundance.
Each video is rated, and you can see how many people have viewed each one, which is useful in making your own decision when choosing which to download.
A Good Pedigree
The site has some people behind it, with the company’s CEO being John Ferber, a founding member of Advertising.com. This should at least ensure the site will make a successful transition from beta to fully live.
The site isn’t bombarded with adverts, although that could be because it’s currently in it’s infancy, being barely a month old.
I assume the developers are banking on enough people signing up at this early stage before they flood the site with the adverts they’ll surely need to support the revenue model.
Conclusions
It’s a nicely laid out site, and the revenue sharing model sounds good, if it’s viable over the long term. There are improvements to be made, but overall, it’s definitely worth signing up for the beta.
