Did Google remove a page on my site because they didn’t like what I was saying?
I recently wrote an article stating that Google was trying to mis-lead TV companies by pretending it had no plan to offer a scalable TV solution in the future.
Google basically said it can’t do internet television because of inherent technical restrictions, while at the same time asking to partner with cable companies over video advertising
While the technology for a scalable IPTV solution is a bit dodgy now, it will be a very real option in a few years time and Google knows this.
I’m very confident that my presumption was right and that Google was just trying to put fearful TV companies at ease so it could muscle in on TV advertising.
Guess what? Google is now doing TV advertising.
Google de-indexed the article
Google removed the article from their search index and it can no longer be found in the Google results pages. It was previously indexed like every other page on my site. No other pages appear to be affected.
Is Google being Malicious?
I’ve always thought Google was comparatively a very honest company. Of course they’ll tell the odd white lie to help them get into new markets, but I never thought they would remove a site from their search results because it gives them bad press.
In fact my gut instinct tells me its just one of those random errors and my page will be back in the index anytime soon. But of all the articles on my site to get randomly de-indexed it does make me wonder…
Is Google trying to censor me?
Update: Since writing this article the page has now been re-indexed by Google. I personally think it was Google filtering out duplicate content. Someone had copied the article and Google must have thought that was the original and mine was a copy. But now Google has realized the article on WebTVWire was the original and re-indexed it.
