We’ve been following the progress of CrossCast, and its various components for the last year or so here on Web TV Wire, and while the Italian company is struggling to gain traction in the US or Europe, it does show a lot of promise.
CrossCast itself is an Online UI and tools platform for production professionals, and media companies. It is essentially a framework for online network television which offers a range of advantages to adopters.
Mirco Pasqualini Speaks
The soon to be released second version of CrossCast was previewed back in February, and the developer, Mirco Pasqualini, has now given a demonstration of the system to Gilbert Hammer at IPTV Evangelist.
The video isn’t embeddable, which is a shame for a demonstration of a system built to provide flexibility with on demand services, but you can watch it in full by following this link.
CrossCast 2.0
CrossCast 2.0 is built not only to be a platform for providing video on a computer, but also other Internet-enabled devices such as mobile phones, iPhones, the iPod, Apple TV, and other set-top-boxes.
It’s main competitors are Joost and BrightCove, but Pasqualini believes CrossCast will be able to offer something different, and target a different set of people than its rivals.
Conclusions
CrossCast Systems also has the WiTV video player in place, an alternative to Joost which we explored in some depth last year, but which I personally haven’t heard much about since.
CrossCast looks to be in a great position to offer media companies an opportunity to get network TV up and running for both personal and professional needs. Whether its Italian base will mean the US misses out though, remains to be seen.
