ABC Entertainment and the Warner Bros. TV Group have signed a deal on streaming rights for upcoming WBTV shows. The shows in question are Pushing Daisies, Big Shots, Men in Trees and Notes From the Underbelly.
The two-year deal allows ABC to keep the ad revenue generated by its online player and also stream WBTV shows as non-permanent offerings in year one. In year two, WB will be given the rights to stream the previous year’s episodes and will also be privy to the ad revenue.
This deal once again highlights how networks are now willing to think out of the box. Both companies didn’t take the typical industry route where the studio retains only revenue from electronic platforms like iTunes.
WBTV president Bruce Rosenblum in a press statement said:
“What’s fun and exciting for each of us as this marketplace evolves rapidly is that the deals we made 12 or 24 months ago are different than the ones we do today. It’s an experimental time.”
